Remembering Christina

I first met Christina online. It was either 1998 or 1999. We both belonged to the same homeschool group. There was a small number of us that were christians and felt we no longer fit into the group. So, we started our own, one that would be distinctly Christian. From what I can remember it was me, Christina Hooker, Kris Bales, Jennifer Dewey, and Susan Tadle. We are all still members of this group.
I met Christina in person for the first time at an outing that we had arranged for the group at a local park. I still remember her standing quietly smiling over to the side, just watching the group, with a baby on her hip. I am so glad I met her. We had so much in common. She was such a fun, smart person.
I have been a member of the homeschool group ever since the beginning. Even though I am no longer homeschooling I just can't leave the group. I love them. It has been such a big part of my life for so long. There may be a time soon, when I will say goodbye to the group, but for now I want to stay. The group will not be the same without Christina though.
Christina, became one of my best friends. I know there is no way to convey what her friendship meant to me. She was even my daughter's Doula when my grand-daughter was being born. She has been there for me through many transitions in my life, and was still my friend.
I wish there was a way to properly honor her and the friendship we had. She was such a blessing in my life. These words do not adequately convey that. She was a beautiful person, loving wife, great mother, and wonderful friend. She will be greatly missed. I wanted to share with you what she meant to me.
I apologize if this is not really written coherently, I am just writing from my heart as it pours out.

It was October 1986 when I met him for the first time. Friends had introduced us, and we went to a haunted house for our first date. After that first date we didn’t stop talking or seeing each other for the next two years. We fell in love – so much so that we wanted to get married.

I know that a lot of you reading this will not buy into the next part of my story. That’s okay. You don’t have to. It’s my story. I know I was young, but I genuinely and deeply loved him.

One beautiful fall day, we hiked into the woods. We decided that all we needed was for God to marry us. We professed our love to each other and, yes, exchanged vows – just us, and God. We meant every word. But, like I said, we were young. We let circumstances and people (including our parents) get in the way. We broke up and went our separate ways.

The day that I cried out to the Lord for a husband that would love me. I thought of that boy from years ago who had loved me so much. I remembered the day we had married in the woods. I craved that love again. I deserved to be loved. God answered my prayer. We found each other again.

That boy is now my husband. Again. Some may disagree, but I believe in my heart that we were truly married that day in the woods before God. I wonder if that is why my other marriages (and his) didn’t work out. He was my true and my true love.

Since my marriage March 24, 2006, I have been blessed and for the first time, I am happy. I feel I am now where I belong. I wish everyone could be as happy in their marriages as I am in mine. God is awesome! He does restore and bless.

Mistakes cont'd

After the divorce of my first husband, I was lonely. I wanted so badly to have a happy marriage and family. I wanted and needed a father figure in the home for my kids. But, I wasn't exactly thinking with a Christian mindset. See, even though I had been raised in church, no one had ever taught me that Christians should not be with non Christians! I really did not know this important fact. Not sure that it would have changed things, but it definitely would have helped me the second time around.
My next husband was someone I had grew up with! His sister was one of my best friends in school. I met him when I was only twelve years old! We lived together for two years, and during that time we were happy. So, we got married. Everything changed as soon as we said the I do's, and not for the better. Just one week after our wedding he hit me for the first time. Nothing was as humiliating as being seen with a black eye. The way people looked at me, and the questions that I didn't know how to answer. He remained abusive not only physically, but verbally and emotionally for out entire ten year marriage. I won't go into all the details in this post. But know this, I am not one to not fight back. I will not just sit and be a victim. Ever. I had him put in jail and divorced him. The only really good thing to come out of that marriage was my three beautiful kids I had with him.
It was during this marriage that I really turned to God for answers. I began to see the mistakes I had made, and that God did have a plan and a future for me. I cried out to God. I so desperately wanted and deserved to be loved. I wanted a husband. God heard my cries and He answered. He brought back into my life, my true husband. God answered my prayer and it is a beautiful love story. But, that is for another post.

Mistakes

We all make mistakes. No one is perfect. I am not different. I have made many mistakes growing up. When I was 18yrso I was stuck at home, no car, no driver's license, and no way to get to a job if I could get one. I was stuck. At least I felt that way. Desperate people do desperate things. I married one of my brother's friends. Not because I loved him, I think I just wanted out of my parent's house. I realized what a mistake I had made, and tried to have it anulled.(sp?) One month later I again was single, and still stuck.
I did not learn from that, sadly. I married again in June of that same year to a man I had met only 2mos prior. But, it seemed like this would work out. He made me laugh. I soon had my first child, a boy I named Joshua. I was so in love with that baby boy! My husband had a pretty good job and things seemed to be going well. My new baby was only 3mos old when I found out that I was once again expecting! What a shock to me! I had a baby girl I named Amanda. Here I was 20yrs old with 2 infants still in diapers. My husband had been married before and had a daughter from that first marriage. He was ordered to pay child support. He quit his job to get out of paying the child support. (that should have been my first warning) His ex was an alcoholic and did drugs, so he told me he felt that paying her was enabling her to continue to do the drugs. (he actually just didn't want to pay)
This marriage lasted 6yrs. He never took care of us financially, and often left us for days at a time.
Of course after the divorce, he never paid the child support and had pretty much abandoned our children. I was devastated. I went into christian counseling even. Would I ever be happy?
I know this is probably boring you to death, and I am airing all my past with you. But, it is freeing for me to do so. I will finish this in an additional post.

Made a list of things that many of you might not know about me. Some good, some not so good, some I am proud of, others I am not. But, sharing with you just the same.

1. My favorite color is pink. But, since pink doesn't look good on everything, blue is my second choice.
2. I have been legally married 4 times. (This is one of those admissions I am not so proud of.) One of those times does not count either. One pretty much abandoned me and his children, and the next one was abusive. I am now happily married to the love of my life and the one I was suppose to be with all this time, and God brought us back together. He was my true husband all along, which is why all the others didn't work out. (a long story for another day)
3. I am legally blind. I have a hereditary degenerative eye disease called Retinitispigmantosa. (R.P. for short) There is no cure and it usually results in total blindness. You can't tell that I have a problem with my vision generally, unless you try to shake my hand or something and I don't see you. I have tunnel vision, and yes I drive. Scared?
4.I am a Christian. I was saved at the age of 6. I was raised in church. I believe in God's word and that he sent his son Jesus to die for our sins, so that we through Him might be saved. I was later baptized as an adult.

Siblings

My parent's thought since I turned out so cute, that they would have another baby. Well, that sort of back fired on them. First of all, they got a boy, second he just wasn't as cute as me. LOL :) My little brother David Carlyle Tackett was born on January 5, 1973. But, it wasn't until I was a little bit older that I realized that I had other siblings! This was a huge revelation to me! Blew my little kid mind. I didn't understand where these other siblings were or where they came from! Where were they? Can we play together?
My dad had been married to another woman, before my mom! Another huge revelation to me! How could he do that?? As a kid that just seemed crazy to me, but okay I'll go along with that. I wanted sisters badly, after all I was stuck with David! (love ya Dave) We could play dress-up, and with our baby dolls together. Right? Wrong. Not only were they older than me, but they lived across the country from me in Las Vegas, Nevada!! I had 3 sisters, and an older brother. Debbie, Joyce, Carol, and Clyde Jr.. Over the years I did get to meet and know them some. But, I didn't have the relationship I desired to have with them, till now. Thanks to Facebook I can keep in touch more! Gotta love technology! I hope to one day take a trip out to Vegas and meet everyone! Here is a picture from when I was little with 3 of siblings.

I have been thinking that I should write some about myself. Let you, my readers and friends get to know ME a bit more. So, here it goes.
The name given to me by my parents was Donna Marie Tackett. I was the first born child of Peggy Joyce Randolph and Clyde Franklin Tackett. I was born on a cold, snowy, winter Sunday morning, January 11, 1970. Weighing in at 6lbs 5oz. And believe it or not, I was a pretty baby!
Anyway, I was born with a birthmark between my big toe and second toe that is in the shape of a rib. My mom swears that I held on to her ribs with my toes! Probably true, since the doctors found out that my mom had no supporting ligaments to her uterus and they don't see how she carried much less delivered me. I do! I held on with my little monkey toes bound and determined to survive! I am still that way! Hanging on, determined to survive!

Blog appeal

Working on a plan for my blog. It desperately needs updating, and being kept up to date! I don't feel that this theme expresses who I really am. It's just not me anymore. I had asked my friends on Facebook for suggestions and the only comment made was that I might use something with rollercoasters in it! LOL Well, that would work, but not exactly what I had in mind. So, does anyone out there have any suggestions?

The year 2011 so far

I had so much hope for the year 2011. It is hard to believe that it is half over already. But, I am glad. Because honestly, this has been the worst year of my life and it is only July! It is flying by in a whirlwind of chaos and mayhem.
If you follow me on Facebook at all you know some or most of what I’ve gone through this year. Don’t worry, this is not going to be a post seeking sympathy. But, something to share.
It started with financial problems that stemmed from my husband’s job. We were really struggling.
Then me and my husband both had serious health issues that came into play, and still do. Requiring many medications. We of course do not have health insurance and if you live in America you know what that means. You're just S.O.L. as my dad would have said. (only he would have said it)
Just as we are struggling to deal with all of that, my father becomes ill and is in ICU for more than a week, and suddenly passes away. Leaving us all in shock. How could he just be gone?
My mom and dad lived with my brother, who is legally blind and soon only had his disability check to live off of and so lost the home they were living in. So, they have moved in with us. Moving is hard as it is, but this move was especially hard. Painful. Mostly for my mom.
Just as we finish hauling the last load and are tired, hot , and sweaty....a tornado blows through behind our house! (they say it wasn’t, but I say differently.) Knocking down trees all around us! (big trees too) splitting our neighbor’s tree right down the middle, but it didn’t fall. But, we were afraid it would and if so would hit our house. On the side with our bedrooms non the less!! The storm knocked out the power and our water. Oh, and did I mention that we have been having a record breaking heat wave? 96* was the average temp with the heat index of over 100*. Yeah. We all slept in the living room with the doors and windows open hoping the power would be turned on soon, praying that the tree wouldn’t fall on the house. We stunk too! The next morning we find out that we will not have any power till Monday! (The storm hit on Saturday) This was Father’s Day. The first Father’s Day without my dad. I had had enough! So, off to the hotel we went! Got much needed showers and rest, while waiting on our neighbors to take down the tree.
We came home Monday to the house in tact, the tree down, and the power on! Took a while for the water, but finally got it back too.
This is how the year 2011 has gone for me thus far. So, if you have wondered about me, and why I can’t seem to keep up my blog or do anything....This is why. And there is much more I could tell, but won’t.
Now I know I said this would NOT be a depressing post. It really isn’t . I have felt God with me, through it all! He has given me strength when I had none. He heard my cries, and comforted me. I have a hope and a future because of my faith in Jesus Christ. He has blessed me. I actually have grown closer to Christ now than ever before. I have a re-newed love for my Lord and Saviour. I have given up much these past 6 months, I am believing that the next 6 months will be filled with Joy, healing , and restoration!

The end of an era

There have been a lot of changes here at my house. Big changes. I have been homeschooling for 11yrs. And I have loved it. (most of it) My boys are almost 14 now. They have many learning challenges, including being autistic. We have had many challenges in raising and teaching them. With the help of their counselor we have decided to try and put the boys in public school. This was not an easy decision to make, but I think it is the right one. We will meet with the principle and special ed teachers on the 8th, because they will be in a separate class from the general classrooms, and will need special education. I hope the meeting goes well. We could use your prayers. Also, my daughter who is in high school, will also be going to public school. I want her to have a diploma and this way she will. This means I will no longer be homeschooling. It is the end of an era in my life. But, the future looks really good for us. God has a plan, and in Him I trust.

Since we lost a lot of our pictures in our house fire last year, we needed to have new family pictures taken. Serena at Serena Smith Photography took beautiful pictures of our family. She did a fantastic job even with two year old Caitie, who was very fussy through the whole thing. The pictures are great and I am so happy! I posted an album of all the pics on my Facebook page. I recently made my annual trip to Apple Valley Orchard to buy apples and other goodies. Had a great time with family! There I bought a cookbook called The Heritage Country Harvest Cookbook. It is favorite recipes of the Amish in Northern Indiana. I love this cookbook! It had this poem in it. This poem says it all!

Just a housewife

They call me 'just a housewife'
and I'm glad to hear the name.
You will never see me listed
On the 'Honor Roll of Fame'
Career women look with pity
at my apron, broom and mop,
But I wouldn't trade them places
for things their money bought.
They call me ' just a housewife'

That God thought I would be useful

Okay, so I hate posting boring or un-happy stuff on my blog. I have been mostly posting on my FB page. But, for those who don't follow me there, I thought that I would do a quick follow up.
As you can tell, my blogs have not been updated as planned. (I am working on it though) I have been writing though. I hope you will still follow me and keep up with me. (yes I guess I am begging)
On a sad personal note, my dog LuLu died this morning. We are all still heartbroken over it. For those of you with pets you understand. She was great, and I will miss her.

I have a whole bunch of articles and posts that I have been writing. I plan on posting those as well as updating the blog look and feel.

New and updates

Wanted to make a quick post since I haven't in a while. We have had some unfortunate events (yes, again) My sweet husband was in a bad car accident on July 13th. It was a head on collision, and it is a miracle that he wasn't killed. I am thanking God for that. Neither him nor the other driver (who was at fault) Were killed. My husband has head, neck, and back trauma and is in a lot of pain. He could certainly use your prayers. We are currently driving a rental car. Our vehicle was totaled in the accident. Now we are car shopping once again.

On a more positive note, we are getting a new roof put on our house! It will be metal. I am happy to get this done. There are lot of fixing up to do on our home, and I am excited to fix it up like we want it. I plan on being here a long time. :)
Also, I am giving my blogs a face lift this week as well. My friend Ali Tefler will be doing this for me. Details later.

Birthday party for my boys

The boys' birthday party went well today! No storms or rain to ruin the party. We all had a good time. I still can't believe the boys are 13!! Where did the time go?? I now only have teens in the house!
We bought the boys new games for their Nintendo DS's. They are thrilled! And my sweet hubby bought me Wii fit!! I have been wanting one. Yes honey, I will use it. :)

Late night ramblings

So much to write about that I don't know where to start! So, if I seem to ramble I apologize ahead of time. I recently signed up for sewing classes and my best friend and my daughter and step-daughter decided to sign up too! yay! I am excited. So, my sweet husband bought me a new sewing machine! He loves me so much! What started all of this, was me wanting to sew kitchen curtains. I hope the sewing class helps!
My twin boys, Samuel and Daniel are now officially teenagers! I now have a house full of teenagers! We are going to celebrate their birthday on Saturday at my mom's house. Cookout and swimming! Should be fun! I will take lots of pics too!
We also recently bought us a vehicle that was much needed! A Chevy Suburban! Yes it's a gas hog, but it is big enough to haul my bunch and groceries too! Now we can all safely and legally go to church! :)
Well, that is all I am posting tonight. Sorry if it was disjointed, it's late and I am tired.

Chaos and new furniture

Well, I did not get all my blogs updated as planned. Seems hard to overcome some of the chaos that is still in my life right now. But, I will persevere! Part of the chaos is getting our 'stuff' back. Important stuff like furniture, pots and pans, linens and such. Everyday we find that there is something we need, but still do not have. We will get these things in time.
Today was a good day! We got some of our new furniture! I am so happy too. We bought a living room suit, a master bedroom suit, and a kitchen table with 6 chairs. We will get the kids bedroom furniture next.
I am also looking over curriculum for the kids. The insurance company is of course going to replace the lost curriculum in cost, and I will buy them new. Decisions, decisions!!
Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Nothing big planned here. I know we will go to visit Bruce's mom and then my mom. After that, I am hoping we will just chill out at home together as a family. I hope all of you have a great Mother's Day too!

Changes

For those of you who are faithful to keep up with me, know that I have not been blogging for some time and why. (see previous post)
It has been 6 months since the fire. A lot has changed. We are finally in a new home in the country. God has really blessed us. I love our new home. We are slowly re-building our life. The changes that have taken place are not just physical things. We have in many ways changed emotionally and spiritually. Family and time together is more important than 'things'. We still do not have all our furniture and things lost in the fire replaced. (thanks to the insurance company) But, we are together, and have a home again. 'Things' will come. But, I want us to keep things in our new life and home simple. Not so much stuff. We still grieve what we lost in the fire, but we are excited about what the future holds for us. I don't want this post to be too lengthy so I am going to end it here by saying God is faithful. He loves and wants to bless His children, and He has a plan for us. There are more changes I want to share and will in future posts. God Bless.

Life goes on...

It has been sometime since I have posted here. Many of you already know what has been going on and the reason I have not been actively blogging. But, for those of you who do not and for those who do not know the details, I am going to explain.
On November 22, 2009 the Sunday before Thanksgiving our home burned, and was utterly destroyed. Luckily no one was home at the time and even the animals are okay. But, we have lost everything. We are still dealing with our insurance company (fighting is more like it) and we are still in a hotel. We have been here since the night of the fire. We are trying to rebuild our lives. Please check your homeowners policies, especially if you have State Farm. You will not get what you think you are paying premiums for.
I am eager to get back into a routine with kids schoolwork and my writing. I have so missed blogging. I am not going into a lot of detail as to what we are going through right now. It would be too long! But, I am in the process of making lists and filling out paperwork to get our content replaced. It is a horrible process. Please pray they don't fight us every step of the way and that it is handled in a timely manner. Your prayers are needed and very much appreciated.

HI! Miss me? Probably not. I took a long break from blogging. I have missed it. I am happy to get back at it too.
This is my favorite time of year. I love Autumn! Don't you? The cooler temps, the beautiful, colorful leaves falling from the trees... and don't forget the good food!
I made some apple crisp the other night and it was so yummy. I may share some of my favorite fall time recipes on here. If you have any, share them with me!
We visited a local apple orchard with our homeschool group as a field trip. It was fun and we brought home some delicious apples! (hence the apple crisp)
I am keeping this post short on purpose. I am hoping I will still have followers that will read, but I know it will take me time to build my blog back up. Journey to a healthier me!

Well, I have been wanting to lose weight and get healthier for a long time now. I have made some progress too. I finally bought a juicer, a stand mixer, and a grain mill. The grain mill being the most important one. Now I can make sure we are really getting whole grains into our diet. But, I still struggle with being overweight and having health problems. Both my mom and my husband are diagnosed as diabetic. I don't want to join them! So, I signed up for Richard Simmons' Food Mover 2009 program, and joined a Curves gym. I am hoping with the diet and exercise 3days/wk that will do the trick. Can't hurt! I am taking a before picture (no you can't see it) So that when I have lost a measurable amount I can take an after picture and compare the two. I might share then. :) I also belong to an online community at Sparkpeople.com if you'd like to check that out as well. Join me! Everyone should work toward being healthier even if your not overweight.

Well, a lot is going on with me. I hate that I haven't posted here in so long! My birthday was the 11th, and it was a good one. I went to MNO on the 12th and had a great time with all my friends from my homeschool group, even got to use my Applebee's gift card too. If you saw me at MNO you know how long my hair had gotten. Well, I took Christina's advice and got my hair cut and donated it to Locks of Love. My hair cut is great! I love it. So, I thought I'd post a few pics of it.

I wanted to share this recipe. This is my all time favorite Chrismas Cookie.
I make mine as thumbprint cookies with a candied cherry in the middle,
with white chocolate drizzled over top! YUM!!

Shape this chocolate cookie dough into a variety of shapes and make a variety of cookie shapes from one dough.

Preparation time: 30 min Chilling time: 2 hrs Baking time: 7 min

Yield: 3 dozen cookies

3/4		cup sugar
3/4		cup LAND O LAKES® Butter, softened
1		egg
1		teaspoon almond extract
1 2/3		cups all-purpose flour
1/3		cup unsweetened cocoa

Combine sugar and butter in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg and almond extract; continue beating until well mixed. Reduce speed to low; beat, gradually adding flour and cocoa and scraping bowl often, until well mixed.

Divide dough into thirds. Wrap each third in plastic food wrap; refrigerate until firm (2 hours or overnight).

Heat oven to 375°F. Shape dough with floured hands, one-third at a time (keep remaining dough refrigerated), into 1-inch balls. Form balls into desired shapes (balls, squares, logs, etc.) or follow variations as directed below. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until set. (Surface may crack slightly.) Cool completely. Decorate as desired.

If you want to use a cookie press to form cookies, it is not necessary to chill dough before forming cookies.

Too much flour can make your cookies dry and crumbly. To measure flour, lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off with a straight edge.

VARIATIONS:

Nut Rolls: Shape dough into 2 to 3-inch logs. Bake as directed. Cool completely. Dip both ends of each cookie into melted chocolate chips, then in finely chopped nuts.

Surprise–Filled: Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Make depression in center of each cookie with back of teaspoon. Bake as directed. Cool completely. Fill with maraschino cherry half. Spoon melted vanilla milk chips over top of cookie.

Cut-Out Cookies: Roll out dough on lightly floured surface, one-third at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/8 to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3-inch cookie cutter. Place 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake as directed. Decorated as desired.

Well, right now it is a wait and see on the job scene. In the mean time we are still struggling financially, but not as bad as we were a few months ago. We are caught up on our house payments, and our car is paid off. We had to give up our cell phones though. (I miss that more than I thought I would too) With Christmas coming and 6 kids to buy for, I am a little concerned. My two oldes children I am not worried about as much,(they know the score) but for the other 4, I am worried. My husband is working all the over time he can get, and because everyone at Hutcheson EMS is leaving for other jobs, or just quitting, there is lots of over time to be had. Which is good for us.
I got to babysit my grandson Landon last night for his mommy. I don't ge to see him as much as I do Caitlin. I really enjoyed spending time with him. He is getting so big!! He will be one year old November 30th. Hard to believe. Caitlin is jealous of him though. She would see me holding him, and would yell! She also tried to do everything he did. Funny.

Back in the loop!

I have been out of the loop for a while. I hate that. I feel like I have missed out on a lot. I miss all my friends. We are having transportation issues and finances are really tight. We received bad news in the form of a registered letter the other day. As many of you know my husband is an EMT and works for Hutcheson's EMS. Well, the letter was from Hutcheson letting us know that Bruce will not have his job at the start of the year. His last day is Dec 31st. We will lose all our benefits, more importantly our insurance. It was nice of them to let us know right here before the holidays, don't you think? We are not sure what we are going to do yet. Pray.
Everything is not doom and gloom though. We are blessed. Bruce's parent's gave us our Christmas present early. They paid off one of our loans. That is one bill off us now. I am so grateful too! (thanks mom and dad Scott)
I know that it will be rainy this week here, but I am kinda glad for the rain. Not only do we need it, but I declare this pajama week!! We will stay in our pj's the rest of the week!! Wanna join us? Kick back in pj's and read some good stories!

Election 2008

I was not going to post on the election at all. But, after much thought I decided to give some advice to my fellow Christians concerning the election. First of all VOTE! It is important as Christians that we vote. It is more important that we vote wisely with much prayer. I have often struggled with voting, feeling like I really didn’t know the candidates well enough to make an informed vote. Whatever you do, do not depend on the media. They have a secular agenda and only let you see what they want you to see. Just because you see or hear it on CNN does not mean it is absolute truth. So, how do we know who to really vote for? Well, there are three important websites for you to visit. The first is: www.votesmart.org on the right you will see presidential candidates, click there and you can go see the candidates and research their voting records. The second site is: www.christianvoterguide.com and here is a voters guide (pdf) Last but not least is www.wallbuilders.com This site is by David Barton. He has amazing resources on America’s history and the Bible in American history. Very informative. I hope this helps you in making your decisions for your vote. Do not vote just because you want to be on the winning team, vote with your conscience! Vote smart. Every vote counts and it is time American Christians let their voice be heard loud and clear.

My Monday

Well, today started out okay...Homeschool, chores, the usual. We decided to go to the library, Tabby reads so fast! Tabitha has been entering into a contest at the Rossville Library every time she checks out a book. The prize is tickets to see the new Twilight film that is coming out in November. She is a big Twilight fan and just finished reading the first book and was going to put the second book in the series on hold for her. When she got there to check out they told her that she had won!! She was so shocked and excited! I am happy for her. She will get 2 tickets to see the show when it comes out November 21st. She also got the second book in the series today, so she will be up reading late again I bet. Yes, I know it is about vampires, we read it together. I am so impressed with Tabitha's reading. She had struggled a while with her reading in the beginning and then it just took off!

Then after the library, we go home. I then go back out to go pick up the boys' perscriptions at CVS but my car won't start. My starter has been sluggish for a while. Well, it's the starter allright. So, I am stuck at home. Bad thing, is that Amanda had to ask her boss for a ride home from work tonight because I can't go get her. Hopefully we will get that fixed tomorrow.

That is pretty much our day. I think I need some chocolate now.

When it rains....it pours!!

Just when I think things can't get any worse...they do. Why is that?? Well, today my husband found out that he could be losing his job as an EMT very soon. What are we going to do? I am trying not to worry, but we have been having major financial problems for a few months now, and now this! and christmas is coming. Not only that, but we will lose our insurance as well. So, please pray for us. I know that God has good plans for us and He would not shut this door without another one to open. I will have to trust in Him and keep my faith strong.

On a lighter note, I have new pics of the kids and my grand-babies to share. But, I am having a problem with getting them on my blog! ugh! If there is anyone out there with suggestions I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Well, I wanted to post really quick. I haven't been on here the last couple days because I am haveing major problems with my website and it is taking a lot of my time. Hopefully I will have the site fixed by tomorrow.
There has been a lot going on around here too, that doesn't help. Caitie is having breathing treatments every 6hrs, We have been trying to get the house in order and homeschool too, and we have had out of state company. So, a lot going on.

I was reading some of my friends blogs and they are all listing 7 weird things about themselves. So, I will join in!

1. I cannot walk bare-footed. It drives me crazy. I can not stand for my feet to be dirty or feel dirty. I know..weird.
2. I do not like for anyone in the house to wake up before me. I have to be the first one up. Or else I am really grouchy.
3. I cannot drink from a plastic cup. I can, but hate to. I like to drink from a glass.
4. Well, this may seem a bit risque...but I have a tattoo and several piercings, that you can't see. They are hidden.
5. I have to eat my food evenly. Taking a bite of each thing on my plate. But, I don't like to mix my food together. Just taking a bite of each in turn, evenly. I know...crazy.
6. I have RP. which is a degenerative eye disease. I was suppose to be blind by the time I was 30. I am not. I am considered legally blind though, and yet I drive. (scary huh?) I have very little peripheral vision.
7. I am having a hard time thinking of anything else (which is good I think) But, I am the same height and shoe size that I was when I was 12yrs old. I am only 5'3 and my shoe size is 6 1/2 ladies.

I hope you like the new blog design. I think it will do for now. I do plan on having a professional blog design done here soon though, maybe in the next couple of months. I do like this one though. Don't you?

I am enjoying the cooler weather here. I love fall!! It is my favorite time of year. Me and the kids have been making bird feeders out of pine cones. Messy but fun! We had collected pine cones from the park, we smeared peanut butter over the outside of the pine cone and then sprinkled bird seed over the PB. Then we tied ribbon around the top (we actually did this first) and we hang them in the trees. The birds love them! I have new binoculars, so we fight (not literally) over whose turn it is to use the binoculars and watch the birds!

I will post pictures tomorrow, if I can. This weekend will be busy! I plan on enjoying the weather with my family! You do the same!

Changes

There are changes here at home and soon in my blogging world. So, I thought I'd give an update.
My daughter Amanda and my grand-daughter Caitlin will probably be moving out soon. Amanda should have her Apartment by the 2nd week in October. I don't think either of us is ready, but I do feel it is time. Some changes had to be made. Luckily the apartment is close and I can still babysit Caitie for Amanda. Please keep them and me in your prayers during this transition.
I am changing my blogs. I am just not satisfied with how they look at all. I have been envious of some fellow bloggers, their blogs are so much more together. Anyway, I will be working hard, and yes writing more. I have a lot planned, so keep in touch with me here. Leave me comments and let me know how you like (or don't like) the changes.

Do you just HATE debt? Has it ever felt like a noose around your neck? Ready to come away from the slavery? Here are some quick tips to help you attack that debt and find the freedom that you are longer for!

==> What's in Your Hand? Yep! What do you have in your hand to battle that debt with? Do you have a skill? Do you have stuff? Do you have a product? Do you have equipment? Want your dreams to come true? Well, offer up those "fish and bread" in your hand to the Great Provider. Watch Him do a miracle! He may ask you to use your skill of cleaning to begin an office cleaning business--talk about a great business model with a very limited investment. Maybe you have tons of old books that are just collecting dust--hear the call to sell on Ebay? What about those purses that you make...or books that you have written...or even parts from that junk car in the yard--sell it on Ebay! What about that lawn mower...or that bobcat? Put that ad in the paper and offer up what you have in your hand. Watch God bless!

==> Stop the Leaks! If your money bucket is leaking quicker than you are filling it up, stop everything right now. Find a way to stop the leak! Write down every penny you spend for a week. Shock you? Little things will make a HUGE difference. Just cutting out soft drinks for our family of four saved us hundreds of dollars. Don't believe it? Just do a bit of math--

Family of 4 drinking 2 soft drinks per day--1.25 each--$10.00
Hummm..7 days a week all month---$310.00
JUST ON SOFT DRINKS! That doesn't count the calories or the health problems!

==> MAKE a budget and LIVE the budget! First, write down all of your necessary expenses--tithing, housing, utilities, gas, food, financial commitments. Decide which part of the month you will need to pay each. Next, look at all of the other things that you spend money on-- Find any of the leaks on your budget and apply the money from those leaks to get rid of debts one-by-one. Not enough money for all of the month? Take a look again at what is in your hand--what can you do to make more money? Nothing? How about looking around you for an extra job--we can truly testify that we always need help with our businesses but few people genuinely want to work hard for money. Debt hurt bad enough? It only takes a little while to catch back up and be free. Find that extra job. Or get rid of of those extras for a little while. There may be things that have to be set aside until the debt is retired. More than likely just using a budget will help to give the accountability needed to get rid of most debt and debt problems. My favorite resources for figuring up a budget (and all of the incidentals) can be found here: Dave Ramsey's Website or at Living On a Dime's Website.

==> "Live like no one else today so you can live like no one else tomorrow!" Anyone know who says that one? Yep! My favorite writer and speaker, Dave Ramsey. Dave is SO right! If we will just tighten our belts for a little while, in only a little while, we can have our dreams! I don't know about all of you, but I cannot stand being in captivity to the debt taskmasters. I want to go for all that God can give me in this life. I cannot do that if I am serving the master of debt too. I remember the day that Harold and I with our children decided that we would commit to live like no one else for a period of time so we could live like no one else later. The dream of having daddy home with us is worth it! The dream of having a business that our children can have as a heritage is worth it! And...it really only takes a little while!

==> Don't presume upon the future. This is one HUGE lesson that God spoke to my heart about my debt. He let me go through a period of not having "enough" to pay off the debts that I owed. It was a long, stressful, frustrating time. At any time, He could have removed that "thorn" from me. Yet, He didn't. He left me in the wilderness--in the heat of the journey. Talk about one I do not EVER care to go through again! If He spoke this word to my heart once, He spoke it a million times--no exaggeration there! Really any debt is presuming about our future. It assumes that we will have another heartbeat--we will have another chance. It assumes that the check will be here. It assumes that the needs for tomorrow will be less than the needs of today--unlikely! Boy! That will bite us! There are no guarantees. Even when people owe us money, there are no guarantees that *they* will be able to pay us--not even employers. We just cannot commit to spend tomorrow's money until it gets here and God gives us a clearance to spend that money. God is so very faithful. I have not finished my study through the entire Bible on money and debt (that is what I am studying right now). However, the very first thing that I remembered being taught as a little girl was to pray that God would give us our daily bread. Remember that? Jesus taught us to pray that request. However, it was not to pray for next year's daily bread so we could have extras today. That is just not how it works. We have to learn to use great self-control with our finances. Every single need will truly be provided faithfully by our Heavenly Father. Plus...watch out! Faithfulness also brings His lavish blessings upon our household. He is certainly our good Master!

==> Hit Debt Bit-by-Bit! Got debt? Want out, but have no idea how to begin? Beloved, first know that it won't take but a little while! Hate the debt and hit that debt! In a little while you are going to be free from the shackles. True Freedom! Get started by stopping the leaks to your finances. If you are going further and further in debt each month, take a long hard look at your finances. Are there things that really need to go? Soft drinks? Eating out? Lessons for the kids? Cable TV/Satellite? Cell phones? Telephones? Those car notes (sell and buy a cheap, good vehicle)? Going too much? Cut those extras! Add up how much all of those things are costing you. For a season, fast from those things. It won't take long and your debt can truly be mastered. Also, simplify everything! Cook meals in bulk--we always save tons with crock pot meals, staples like red beans and rice or soups, and eating sandwiches. We also save on entertainment by checking out videos for free from our library rather than renting, paying extra for cable/satellite, or going out to the movies. Really those things are great money savers, but they also save the family life--you can make sweeter memories with your family all together. What a perk! Finally, also write it all down--be accountable on paper. Every single penny should be logged. Let the whole family see the expenses. Talk about accountability! The kids have helped me to see the waste in Latte's and how much nicer it is to be able to exercise and afford regular family memories every single month with that one commitment!

==> Get God's Vision! Lastly, we want to encourage you to look past the debt for a little bit. Look past the hard times and the struggles to get past this desert in your life. Think about the joy set before you! Can you imagine the difference in your family life? Can you see Daddy coming home for his dream business? Can you see that monthly income without all of the envelopes and threat letters in piles? Can you imagine the joy of seeing your children build their own homes and have their families without all of the debt? Can you see your children's children walking in freedom and liberty? Yes! It is worth it today! This is truly only a small period of time for you. It will be the thing that will make tomorrow a joy and delight. Read Deuteronomy lately? I have been camping there myself this past few months. I have been studying several things in depth in that book. One thing that is an underlying theme of that book of the Bible is God's plans for us financially. They are good plans! He wants to lavish us with blessings. He wants for us to pass on a legacy to our children that distinguishes them among our culture. He wants for us to be the lenders and givers to those who are in need--not to be the ones in need. He has chosen us to be His precious children--ruling and reigning in dominion over the world we are in. And...great news! He has a wonderful plan, complete with how-to's for how we are to get there! So, grasp for His best! Get a vision of all He desires and go for it! You have treasures awaiting you!

Anyway, this is my daughter Tabitha, she is the quiet, shy, bookworm of the family. She too has a haircut, but you can't tell it because it needs to be clean and actually brushed! She is 13, and I think she is going through a 'stage' or something. I still think she is beautiful.

I'm back. Been busy! We started back to school work in our homeschool on August 4th. It has been good so far. I am homeschooling Tabitha 13, and the twins Samuel and Daniel 11. Some things they do together and some apart. I will share more about what we are doing in our homeschool later. Do check out my homeschool resources to the left, their amazing!

On the home front, I have been working hard to de-clutter my house and get it in order. We have so much stuff! I did the boys room first, and then mine and Bruce's room. The laundry room is next! I will post pics of my projects soon.

I have lots of pics to share in this post! Remember the garden I said me and hubby were planting and I said I would post pics? Well here is the garden when we first planted it. We planted tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers,okra, yellow squash, and butternut squash.

The garden has done really well! I can't believe how big our squash plants got! Here is some of our bounty!

I have been busy babysitting Caitie while Amanda is working. I love getting to spend so much time with her! She is NaNa's baby! Is she not beautiful?

My boy's have caused problems in our backyard this summer though..I don't usually pay too much attention to the boys when they are out back playing (I know, not a good idea) Well, they have been digging....under the trampoline. See the roots and all the dirt? But, don't they look so happy playing with their cars and men? I guess boys will be boys..... Hubby is not happy though. They also have been having apple wars (we have an apple tree) they have been throwing apples at each other and broke a window in the neighbors garage. Not good. But I am so thankful we have good and understanding neighbors and it was easily taken care of.

Well, that is how our summer is going so far. I am still without transportation, but I am hopeful that it will be fixed by this weekend. Thanks to all of you who have prayed for us. It means a lot and is noticed. May God bless you and your family this summer.

No I haven't disappeared...I am still around. Just very busy and distracted!
Know the new car I just got? Well, it's transmission needs to be replaced. *sigh* Money is really tight right now too.
Me and my husband did get our garden planted. It looks good too! We have already been enjoying our banana peppers!
The kids are doing relativel fine. Caitie is growing like a weed! So cute! (and demanding) Tabitha gave us a scare Saturday morning. She fainted on me! Scared me to death! We spent our whole Saturday at the ER. Turns out that she had an ovarian cyst to rupture. She is only 13 so I am still concerned about her even though she seems fine now.
I hope you all are enjoying the summer so far...I'm not, but hope to be here real soon! I will try to post some updated pics soon too.

Memorial Day this year was also Samuel and Daniel's Birthday. They are 11yrs old! I can't believe they are that old! I remember their birth as if it was just yesterday. They have come a long way, and by looking at these boys you'd would never guess that they started out at only 3lbs!

Car Woes

On Mother’s Day our one and only car, a Dodge Intrepid; broke down. Bit the dust. Blew up. Not good.
Well, anyway we bought us another car to do in the mean time til the other car gets it’s new engine and is fixed. We bought another Intrepid. Yep, we will have his and her Intrepids. lol Mine is gold. It looks great. Now we will have two vehicles again and that will save us a ton on gas. I still would like for Bruce to have his scooter/motorcycle to drive back and forth to work. (saving even more on gas) But, for now this will do.

Hello everyone! Are you enjoying the weather? I have been. Me and my hubby have been working on planting a garden. (we got started a little late) I think the tiller whipped my husband though...his back is hurting tonight.

Busy life!

Life has been so busy lately! I love spring though, and I have a lot to be happy about. As you already know, my grand daughter Caitie arrived in the world on St. Patrick's Day! She is 1mo old now and is growing so fast! She is beautiful.
This is a recent pic of my grandson Landon. Isn't he cute? He has gotten so big now. He is 5mos old and 14lbs!

Our dog LuLu had her puppies last night....6 total but 2 died. She will get fixed after they are weaned!
I have been working on a project too, that I am excited about. I have a teleseminar coming up soon. I will post details later, but it is about abuse in the Christian marriage and how to survive, and yes even save your marriage. So, I have been doing a lot of work on my site getting ready for this.

Rachel is playing fast pitch softball again this year, she is playing with the Rossville Rage. So, we have ball games too...and Bruce is still working 2 jobs. So, still busy here at the Scott household! Which is why I have not posted in a while!

I haven't been posting for several reasons. First I got sick with the flu...still recovering. A dear friend of mine got it, but it landed her in the hospital with double pneumonia and now has complications from that. So, I have been at the hospital a lot. Now my daughter Amanda is ready to have her baby. She is suppose to be at the hospital Sunday at midnight to be induced. Soon little Caitlin will be here!
I will try to post more later. I plan on taking lots of new pics too. I just got a new camera. Keep us in your prayers.

I am still here. Sorry, I haven't posted in a while. I have been going through some trials of late, that has had me totally exhausted, emotionally as well as physically. I am doing better now. I know that stress can be hard on a person's body, but I didn't realize how much until now.
As some of you may know I was once in an abusive marriage. Well, my ex has supervised visitation with the children every other weekend and has to pay child support. Well, we have been in and out of court over the child support because he is so far behind. He got behind because he went to jail for stalking me and pointing a gun at my 10yro step-daughter. (yes a gun) He only got 11/29 for that because he took a plea agreement with the D.A.. Well, of course he got behind in Child support because he was in jail and lost his job. Well, when he was released he still isn't paying the ordered amount. (yes he is still allowed to have visitation anyway) They put him back in jail for contempt. He only stayed 3 months and they released him without a purge.(meaning he didn't have to pay to get out) He told them this sad story of him being homeless ( a lie, he lives with his sister) and that he doesn't make enough money now to meet his obligation. Believe it or not, the court felt sorry for him. I was made to be some money hungry monster in the court room. I was devastated. After all he has put me and the kids through and continues to put us through, and they are allowing it. I left him and took my kids to escape him and his abuse, and they are allowing him to continue to hurt us. Truth be known, I don't want his money. I just want him to leave us alone and go on with his life, and let us go on with ours. But, he won't. It is just another way to control me. And let me assure you that he does not care for these kids, because if he did he would not have abused their mom and threaten them with bodily harm, or point guns. All of which he was convicted of in a court of law. I am struggling so hard to forgive, because I know I must. But, it is hard with set backs like this. This is not over. I am fighting back. Please pray for us. Thanks.

My crisis

Well, Tuesday was not a good day. The main crisis of the day was that morning when I was giving my twin sons their medication and vitamins. I realized something was wrong when I picked up the bottle of Flintstone vitamins and it was nearly empty. It was a large bottle containing 150 tablets. They had eaten them all!! So, I panicked. I did call their doctor who told me to call poison control. Poison control said that they would be fine (they did not ingest enough to hurt them,PTL) they would just need to drink lots of water, avoid calcium containing products, and eat lots of fiber rich foods because they will probably be constipated from all of this. Oh, and they can't have any vitamins for the next 3 months. They are trying to drive me crazy! Anyway, they are going to be fine.
Samuel and Daniel have special needs which is why at 10yrso they are eating Flintstone vitamins. (I had to explain that to the Poison control lady) I am gonna have to lock everything up I guess. It is time to re-baby proof the house anyway with Amanda's baby due soon. Just thought I would share this.

I had a good birthday spent with my hubby. My son bought me a large Hershey's chocolate bar, but ate a small chunk of it before giving it to me! lol ;)
I am going to be changing my blogs and my website soon. I think they need a face lift. You know, just to spark it up a bit. So, I will be working on that for a while.
Amanda only has about 10wks to go till Caitlin is born. She goes Monday for her sugar test. I have been working on her baby shower. I finally chose the invitations, now I need to gather a list of names and addresses.

Till my birthday...which is Friday the 11th. I already have my birthday present my hubby got me. He bought me a red bluetooth headset to match my red Samsnng Upstage cell phone. I am excited! Now I can talk hands free! He is also taking me out to dinner that night to Logan's! Yay!

The countdown is also on till Caitlin Aileen Hickman is born. That is Amanda's baby's name. Her baby daughter is due in just 11wks!! I can't believe it! Our home is fixin' to be turned upside down!! I will be baby sitting the baby for Amanda while she is in school. Should be fun!

Oprah Winfrey is airing a segment on her show about domestic violence and it’s effect on the children involved. A very important subject for all. This topic is very close to my heart. If you think this sort of thing does not happen in certain circles…your wrong. I know. It happened to me.

Please watch this show. There needs to be awareness on this subject. There is a great stigma associated with women who are abused, which is why they often keep this a deadly secret. They are often scared, alone, and ashamed.

It is a new year, a new beginning, and in my household a new little one on the way! Amanda's baby is due March 26th and I am planning her baby shower! Such fun! I am so looking forward to holding my new grandchild. As for Landon..he is doing great and growing so fast!
I am also on a mission to be more frugal and follow my friends examples and save lots of money at the grocery store. I have a large family and a big part of our budget goes to food. I have started collecting coupons and can't wait for the savings! I hope that I am as successful as my friends have been. Any suggestions anyone?

The birth of Landon Alexander Stoe!! My step-daughter Carey had her baby boy Friday November 30, 2007! Landon weighed in a whopping 5lbs and 14oz.!! (yes he was full term, mommy is just little) She was successfully nursing him last night after delivery. Mom and baby are doing just fine. I will post more later, hopefully with pics!!

Holidays!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I know we sure did. My husband was suppose to work, but at the last minute he got to come home early and had dinner with us after all! It was such a sweet unexpected surprise. He has not had Thanksgiving off in about 3 or 4 yrs!! So, we had dinner at my mom's. It was great.
Today, I have been lazy! lol Enjoying the leftovers and playing on the computer!!
Now, I will be gearing up for our Christmas Celebration. I want things to be simple this year. I have been making up cookie dough and putting it in the freezer so that all we have to do is roll it out and cut it out! Making cookies is a big thing for us at Christmas time.
Also, Sam will be seeing a heart doctor on the 28th. The doctor heard something when listening to his heart and referred him to the specialist. Please pray that it is nothing. Then Thursday he gets his cast off, and Dec 10th Amanda will have her ultrasound to see if she is having a boy or a girl. Pray girl! lol

I didn't know what to put as the title to this post. I just wanted to give a quick update. Samuel did break his wrist and is in a short cast for 3wks. Not too bad.
Amanda had an appointment Monday to hear the baby's heartbeat. 156 beats/min. Good and strong. Dr. Weldon said it was either twins or a girl. He is constantly teasing her about having twins because I did. lol We already know it is not twins from her last ultrasound. So, we are hoping of course it is a girl. Especially since she already has a name picked out. Caitlin Aileen. I think it is pretty. The father of the baby was there (believe it or not) to hear the baby's heartbeat. I hope it is sinking in now.
There is another issue too that needs your prayers. Amanda's pap came back abnormal and they are wanting to do a biopsy. I am concerned of course. So, please pray. Thanks.

Fall

I have been preparing to do a deep fall cleaning on the house in preparation for the holidays. I actually had started this in September! Things keep cropping up to get in the way. But, I am determined. I want the holidays to not be as stressful this year. I want us to just celebrate the birth of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus and enjoy time together with family and friends. Less commercialism. At least that is my hope.
Besides cleaning and homeschooling, my son Samuel hurt his left wrist yesterday playing with his brother outside. I believe it is broken. He is in a temporary cast for now. He will see his PCP tomorrow and probably be referred to an Ortho doctor. My boys play so rough sometimes. Everyone else is doing okay. We have had some sort of sickness pass though but other that me having a lingering sinus infection all seems well.
I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving! Is anyone else already planning for the holidays? We usually go to my mom's for Thanksgiving. This year will be no different. Bruce has to work on the ambulance on Thanksgiving, so I will have to take him a dinner to the station. He has worked every Thanksgiving since we have been together. That just doesn't seem fair. And this year he will also work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!! That is due to him taking on a second job. Our goal is to get debt free. So, I am trying to manage our finances more strictly. I love the living on a dime website, it has a lot of great tips on saving money.

Special Needs Kids

I have twin boys that have special needs. They have some learning disabilities, which make it a challenge to teach them. Don't get me wrong, they are smart (in their own way) and they are teachable. But, they will be 11yrs old next May and they still cannot read. I have blamed myself for a long time. But, honestly I am not sure they would do any better in the public school system. But, I doubt myself. Should I put them in the ps system and give it a try? I am so frustrated. I want them to do well. They are also some what secluded. I do try to have them in activities outside of home, but we have been having financial problems and are not able to participate a lot of times. They don't have any friends they get to play with on a regular basis, and I am not sure that they can play well with others or make friends. They are so used to just having each other to play with. ( as a lot of twins do) I am hoping some of my homeschooling friends can help or have suggestions.

Yep, I'm back. I am feeling so much better, and now believe it is time to get back to my regular blogging. Thank you for being faithful my dear friends.
Some of you know all that has been going on in my life. This year has been one of great change and tribulation in my life. This year me and my husband felt God was calling us into ministry, which is exciting!(and comes with much spiritual warfare); Then both of my oldest daughters, both only in their teens became pregnant! ( a great shock, and so hard to deal with); Then the financial issues. We almost lost our house, and many times had to choose between lights, water or food. Very hard. So, my husband being the great man that he is, took a second job. We were very stressed, and yes depressed. Why was everything falling in on us?(or so it felt) What were we doing wrong? I now feel that we were not doing anything wrong at all (except a couple of bad financial decisions). We prayed, and took communion daily, relying on scripture an the promises God has for those who love him. Guess what? He met our needs! We are no longer in danger of losing our home, our bills are paid and we have food in the cabinets! I believe God wanted us to rely on him, and tested our faith. I also believe though that some of it, was Satan attacking us, trying to discourage us. We are a united threat to him, so I expect more attacks to come, but no matter what my faith rests in Jesus.

Update on us

Things are going good here at the Scott household. Busy as usual with homeschool activities.
Yesterday was Rachel's birthday, she is 12 now. We won't have her party til next weekend though because Friday (tomorrow) she is having surgery on her mouth to remove some impacted teeth in preparation to have her braces on in September, so she won't feel much like partying this weekend.
Tabitha, Samuel and Daniel are really enjoying the homeschool enrichment program at the YMCA this year, and I am too. I hope to keep working out and lose this weight and feel better and be healthier.
On a more serious note, my husband is having a difficult time managing his diabetes and I am worried for him. Please keep him in your prayers.

New Beginnings

This is the time for new beginnings. Summer is coming to a close and fall is fast approaching.( I hope ) I can't wait for those cooler temps! With everything that has been going on here at the Scott household of late, it is time to just move on! We have not one, but two little precious babies on the way. Carey's baby boy is due November 16th by c-section. So, with that and the holidays, we will be very busy! And then Amanda's baby (which we hope is a girl since C.J. is having a boy) is due March 26th! Just two days past mine and Bruce's anniversary! Since Amanda is still home here with us, we are busy preparing for her little one's arrival.
We are also busy with homeschooling too. Our schedule is working but changing right now as we add more activities. Right now the kids are involved in a homeschool program at the YMCA. So, far we love it, and mom gets to work out some too! The kids are taking spanish, music, art, karate, volleyball, and tennis. So, that's a lot!
So, far our schooling for this year seems to be going really well. I am pleased with it so far.

Hello Friends!

It has been a little while since my last post. I needed to do some thinking and praying about how and if I should write about this. I had a hard time writing to you and eplaining how my step-daughter C.J. was expecting at the age of 17. Well, I just found out last week, that my daughter Amanda also age 17 is also pregnant. So, I have two grandchildren on the way and I am only 37!! Amanda's situation is different from C.J.'s in that she does not have a boyfriend and the father of the baby seems to have not interest. So, lots of prayers are needed. This news has rocked our whole family, and honestly has blown me out of the water so to speak. I don't think I am handeling it well, although I think I am finally accepting things and moving on. God has a plan. I know He does. And His word says that all children are a blessing from God. We will love and nurture these new little ones when they arrive.
Thank you so much for your prayers, they are needed and greatly appreciated.

Other Happenings and Blessings!

There is much going on here at the Scott household, besides my first grandbaby on the way! Our ministry is up and growing, and I see God's hand in everything! It is so amazing! Everything is for a purpose. I praise His holy name!
Much is to be done and is required of us right now. Including sacrifices. Please pray for us as I know the enemy will be about to tempt us to stray from the right path.
Our homeschool plans this year seem to be so perfect, like everything just fell into place. I am very excited about what God is doing there also.
I am praying too for friendship. I need a friend right now. I have many online and homeschool friends, but none I can really connect and be close to it seems. Know what I mean? I would love a friend to talk and hang out with, who has the same intrests as me. Maybe we could do some cooking together, walk together, or whatever! I think I just need an encourager. Anyway, that is one of the things I am praying for.
Well, I have to go now. Too much time on the computer!

Thank you so much for your prayers and encouraging words. I needed those, and I think C.J. does too. I think right now she feels ashamed and like everyone is condemning her. Know what I mean? She needs to see God's love and forgiveness right now. I hope to show her that. Her mom is not going to be there for her, but then again she never has been. I will be here for her if she needs me. I honestly think the dad will eventually skip out on her, and I think she feels that way too. I hope not though. Let's just keep them and this new little precious one in our prayers.

Well, I have news to share. In some ways this is good news and in other ways it is bad news. I honestly am still in shock and not sure how to feel yet. But, I know God is in control.
So, here is my news, I am going to be a grandma. Yes, you read that right. A grandma. My step-daughter C.J. is 5 months pregnant. She waited this long to tell me because she knew I would be upset. But, I just love her so much. She needs your prayers. So, please pray. She is only 17 and living with her boyfriend(the baby's daddy). She would not live with me because of my so called strict rules, and I had no legal power to keep her here as I am no longer legally her step mom and I do not have any control. Both of her parents don't care. It is sad. I cared, and I loved her, but it still wasnt enough. She says she knows now, but she has a long road ahead of her now. She was offered by her mother to have an abortion but luckily said no that she felt that was wrong.
Pray for her, the baby, and us as a family. Thank you.

Happenings

Well, a lot has been happening here at the Scott household. Summer has been busy as expected. We just finished VBS, which was a big hit with the kids. They really enjoyed it.
The teenagers are, well....being teenagers. It is so hard to protect them anymore now that they are 17 and 18yrs old. I mean they still have to follow the rules, but they are older and making more and more decisions on their own, and I have to trust that the way they were raised will help them make good decisions. I still worry. But, I stand on God's promise that teach a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. God will keep them.
My husband has felt led by God to go into ministry. This is not something new, other than now he is being obedient to that call. Since comitting to this we have been under great spiritual attack. (like I didn't know that was coming) He is looking into finding a seminary, which seems to be difficult to do. He does have some Bible study background, but mostly personal. I too have felt for a long time that I had a call on my life to help others and lead them to Christ. I also believe that is why me and Bruce are together. It was all part of God's plan. He is such an awesome God!
Well, it is late I will end this post here for now. I will post a new slideshow and then it is goodnight.

Goodbye Phoenix

We lost our beloved bird, Phoenix today. Not sure what happened. We are all sad, and will miss him greatly. The kids are especially upset. Tabby being the one that found him in his cage, and Rachel because it was originally her bird. Rachel is not handeling this well at all.

He was beautiful, funny, and entertaining. We loved him and will miss him. Goodbye Phoenix.

Are you ready for summer to be over?

Actually, I do wish for summer to be over. I am ready for cooler temps, and school! I am not a summer person, but I LOVE fall time! It is too hot to do anything right now, we have been in a drought, and I am just needing a change of pace.
It is nearly time for our local curriculum fair and I always get excited about starting a new school year around this time. What about you? What are your plans? Are you enjoying the last days of summer?
My kids are in Vacation Bible School this week, and are loving it. So, that part of summer is not so bad, but until cooler weather comes, I will be sitting over my air conditioning vent! lol
